The latest news for Knockalva Polytechnic College (KPC) revolves around its massive recovery efforts after Hurricane Melissa devastated the campus in late October/early November 2025, leading to class suspensions and huge financial losses, with students temporarily hosted at Caribbean Agricultural Science (CASE), while the college appeals for aid for repairs and to rebuild its agricultural facilities. Before the hurricane, KPC was celebrating its 85th anniversary and transitioning into a full polytechnic, receiving government support for agricultural focus and tech integration. 

 

Hurricane Melissa Aftermath (Nov 2025)

  • Severe Damage: Hurricane Melissa caused catastrophic damage, ripping roofs off dorms, collapsing walls, and destroying agricultural assets like greenhouses and poultry.
  • Suspended Classes: Classes were halted indefinitely as the college faced an estimated J$3.5 billion in losses, described as the most devastating event in its history.
  • Student Support: Students were temporarily relocated to the Caribbean Agricultural Science (CASE) campus to continue studies, with KPC expressing gratitude for this community support.
